Davies: "We want to finish strongly and take a winning mentality into next season.”

Reds ‘keeper Adam Davies gave his thoughts after a solid display at Oakwell.

The Reds number one pulled off a stunning penalty save just after half-time, in a match that saw both teams trying their best to take all three points and he gave his thoughts on the match.

“I thought we played really well, especially first half where we kept the ball really well. We created a lot of chances and we just needed to take them. I’ve just seen then that we had 25 shots and we’ve scored one goal, which is frustrating but at least we are creating those chances so hopefully now we start taking them.

“We’ve been looking at them and they have been fantastic in the last few weeks. We knew it’d be a tough game as they keep the ball really well and move it quickly, which they showed in the second half when they stepped their game up. I felt that we dealt with them quite well overall and obviously, we’ve had plenty of chances ourselves which we should have took.”

Just a minute into the second half, the referee awarded a penalty against the Reds which gave the Bees the chance to take the lead with Jota stepping up, only for the ‘keeper to dive the right way and produce a stunning save.

Asked if he had been doing his research on Brentford’s penalty takers, Davies said, “I’ve actually stopped looking at them now because I’ve been playing mind games with myself, so I go off my gut feeling! I haven’t saved a penalty in a while so it was nice to get one today. That’s what I am there to do, make saves. Thankfully I did manage to save it and it gave the lads a chance to get the second goal but unfortunately we couldn’t.”

Following Thursday’s disappointing loss at Wigan, the goalkeeper who has played every minute of the campaign for Barnsley explained how it was nice to play well today and put the game against the Latics to bed.

“It was nice to bounce back after Wigan, everyone has bad games and it was nice for me to make that save to get some confidence back.”

He now feels that his side need to keep working hard and trying to win games, in order to take momentum into next season.

“I want to win every single game that I play in, we know we’ve got nothing to play for league wise now but we want to finish the season as strong as possible and that’s the mentality that the players have. We’ve installed that into the Club, you saw last season the momentum we took forward, so we want to finish strongly now and take a winning mentality into next season.”
