We are delighted to announce that 40 Reds fans will take on the 2016 Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on Saturday 8th October, to raise funds for two very worthy local charities, Barnsley Hospice and Reds in the Community

The 24.5 mile Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, which tackles the magnificent and famous three highest peaks; Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, is renowned for being one of Yorkshire’s toughest challenges and is one of those must do events. It should not be taken lightly, but once you’ve completed it the amazing sense of achievement makes it all worthwhile!

With Paul Heckingbottom’s side not in action this weekend because of the international break, it was seen as a perfect opportunity for fans to get together and raise money in support of Barnsley Hospice (Registered Charity No. 700586) and Reds in the Community (Registered Charity No. 1118735). All proceeds raised from the challenge will be split equally, with 50% of the proceeds going to each charity.

15 fans committed to the journey and helped to raise money last year. This year, that figure has more than doubled and we are thankful to everyone who has offered their support and help raise money for two amazing causes.

We would like to wish all 40 Reds fans taking part the very best of luck with the challenge and we hope that you enjoy the experience! We are calling on other supporters to show your support to the team and help raise money for the two local charities. Please donate online by CLICKING HERE!

About The Two Charities.

Barnsley Hospice is a charity that provides specialist palliative care and support to hundreds of local people and their families each year.  The Hospice’s main priority is to achieve the best possible quality of life for patients with a life limiting illness, whilst supporting their families, during the period of illness and bereavement. As a specialist care provider, the range of skills offered include, pain and symptom management, emotional support and end of life care. The Barnsley Hospice team have to raise over £2m per year to stay open.

Reds in the Community is a registered charity and the aim is simple – to help improve the quality of life for people in our local community. The charity uses the power of football and Barnsley Football Club to engage and improve the lives of local people through a range of programmes and initiatives. The money raised through this event will help them to fund the range of programmes and continue to make a positive influence on the lives of local people. Your support will allow the charity to provide much needed funding for projects such as our Fit Reds health initiative, disability sports groups, 16-18 education programmes and various other projects which are vital in supporting the local community. It currently costs just short of £2000 a day to run the charity and it is only through the incredible support from our fans that these targets are met. By walking for Reds in the Community, you will be helping us help people across Barnsley.
