Reds 0
Burnley 1 (Barnes 7)

The Reds didn't look a shadow of themselves from the previous three performances, offering little, if anything, in attack against Premier League-bound Burnley.

The match was far from a classic in any case, and an early goal was the only goal-mouth action of the 90 minutes - with no activity for Tom Heaton and little for Luke Steele.

On seven minutes the opening goal arrived with the first attack of the match and it was for the visitors. Kightly had all the time in the world on the left to pick Barnes out and he hammered his header into the top corner from four yards.

A combination of Mellis, O'Grady and Jennings saw a series of passes work the latter into the area but the Clarets cleared for a corner as the Reds looked for the equaliser.

Both Mellis and Jennings sent half chances wide and over by the midway point of the first half - Barnsley needed a spark.

Burnley should have doubled their lead through Ings and Barnes, with the attacking duo teaming up to see Barnes scuff wide at the far post at an empty net on 26 minutes.

Tom Heaton was still to be tested by the time the Fourth Official's board went up which showed three minutes of stoppage time.

Second half

Danny Ings went close with a one-on-one but Steele got the better of the striker's effort low to his left on 57 minutes.

Barnsley made their first change a minute before the hour - Jacob Mellis made way for Reuben Noble-Lazarus.

Scott Arfield tested Steele with a vicious low strike on 68 minutes and the Reds number one did well to hold onto it.

Paddy McCourt was thrown on to try and create something because Wilson's men had yet to offer any real threat.
